Use Your Fundraiser’s Logo
Snapchat geofilters allow you to create a custom filter that will become accessible to people who attend your fundraiser or step within the geofencing boundaries. If your fundraiser will take place in a physical location (versus online, for instance), create a custom geofilter with your fundraiser’s logo and set it to become available before and during the event.
You’ll decide how long you want the geofilter to run and what area you want the filter to cover when you go through the approval process at Snapchat. Just make sure to double-check your dates, so you don’t have to start the process over again. Make sure your logo will appear clearly no matter the colors and brightness levels of the snaps users might send with it.
Add Your Fundraiser’s Message
Sometimes a logo isn’t descriptive enough. To boost awareness of the fundraiser and to encourage sharing, add a brief message about your cause. Using decorative fonts and high-contrast colors can add more “snap” to your snaps and entice people to use the geofilter when they share photos and videos.
You don’t want to fill up the screen with lines and lines of text because nobody will use your geofilter. The purpose is to augment or accentuate the snap rather than to obscure it. Use the edges of the screen as well as the bottom and the top for messages, then leave the rest of the area transparent.
Use Custom Artwork
Hand-drawn illustrations and unique icons can add a dose of whimsy to your geofilter and help set it apart from the rest. People are often more likely to use geofilters when they feature a unique or intriguing design element that they haven’t seen before. For instance, if you’ve organized a marathon for a cause that’s close to your heart, you might use a custom drawing of a pair of running shoes.
Add an Easy-to-Find Handle
You can’t put URLs in your Snapchat geofilters or include an “@” sign before a name, but if you’re creative enough, you can suggest that people will find you online using a particular handle. For instance, if your fundraiser’s name is “Run for John Doe, you could include the word “RunJohnDoe” with no spaces to indicate that the public can use it to find your online presence. That way, they can donate to the cause even if they can’t attend the event.
A custom Snapchat geofilter can dramatically improve your fundraiser’s visibility. Use it to generate buzz about your cause and to unite the people who attend the fundraiser. When they share their images using the geofilter, they’ll expose even more people to your cause.
